Yesterday morning, around 3:00, I saw my host family for the first time. I walked out of customs and threw a little hallway with the rest of the exchangers on my flight. And, there they were. They had signs and called my name as soon as they saw me. I went over and hugged them, and was immediately immersed in a new language. I just stood there and smiled, always having Sandra or Melissa dumb it down for me. My first host family was there and so were the sister and mom in my second host family.
After the airport, we went home. The house I am living in is very nice and so is the family. They treat me like I am family and are very nice to me. Around 4, I fell asleep and then I woke up around 9. We ate breakfast around 11, then all the kids went up to Melissa's room to watch TV and just talk. Around 2:30, Pierina, Fabrizzio, and Laura (the sister, brother, and mom from my second family) came over and around 3:00 we went to a restaurant for grilled chicken. After that, we went home and us girls talked until 5, when they left. Sandra and Melissa's friend, Chi Chi, came at that point. Then, I went up to Sandra and Tatiana's room to watch a movie with them and Chi Chi. Carlos (or Yayo, his nickname) came up and watched too. Around 8:30 we went downstairs to have a small dinner. Then, back up to the room to watch yet another movie. After the movie, and me falling sleep, I took a shower. Of course, the shower works differently here than in the US. But, I figured it out pretty quickly. Or, I figured out how to take an ice cold shower, which I did. I plan on asking the family if there is hot running water for the shower. I bet there is since there is for the sinks.
Today, we are going to a parade, or a festival. It is a huge thing and just for Peruvian independence day, which was yesterday but is celebrated today as well. I'm looking forward to today, and I already love it here!
Until Next Time!
Emily
