Week 2

Today, around 2am, marked the two week anniversary of me being in Lima. I was still up at that time, so I had myself a little party (I ate candy). This past week, I started school, on the 6th of August. It's been going great so far! I'm in 5th grade of Secondary school and there is another exchange student, Nouma, who is also in my same grade, except in a different class. There is another exchange student at my school, Ben. But, Ben is in 4th grade. I get to see Ben and Nouma during breaks, so that's great. I've made so many friends already at school. I think this is going to be a fantastic year! Everyone has been really helpful and always willing to lend at hand when it comes to anything. And, they want to help me with my Spanish skills! How awesome is that? When I make mistakes, they don't laugh they just tell me how to say it correctly.

The teachers at school are pretty awesome too. They understand that I don't understand class and don't make me do any homework. In fact, I don't think I've gotten any grades yet. Also, they try to talk to me and are understanding about me not being able to speak that well. English class is by far my favorite class though, and the easiest. I had a mock-test this week with my english class. It lasted the whole day and it was an exam to test your level of English. So, that was really easy. I asked the examiner to void my test and not score it though, because the two top scorers of the class would receive a scholarship to take the actual test for free. Since I figured I would have been the top scorer, I wanted to void my test so I wouldn't take away a scholarship from someone that really deserved it. On Friday, I had PE. I chose to be in the basketball class. It's actually really fun and the teacher is great.

On Thursday, I was supposed to go to a live taping of a TV show, but there wasn't any room left. So, I am going tomorrow night! Last night, there was a Rotaract event, I'm not exactly sure for what or what even happened, I just know that it was important and I was called up twice to the front. The first time, they awarded me a pin for being an exchange student and the second time was when they called all the rotaract members by name. So, I guess I am a honorary Rotaract member or something! My rotary club and Rotaract club are really great and nice! My first rotary meeting, the president told me, consider us your family this year. We are your aunts and uncles. I feel so welcomed here, I love it. At school, a little primary kid came up to me and he said, "Bienvenido a colegio" (Welcome to school). It made my day. It also makes me smile when people who can't really speak English try to speak to me in English, because I know that they are just trying to talk with me.

I can tell that this year will be a great year already!
Until Next Time!!

Emily
